What do animal and plants require in order to grow and survive?

Animals and Plants mainly need water and food (nutrients) to survive. Other than these 2 factors animals and plants need the correct environment to reside and the correct weather conditions. If these factors are present animals and plants can grow and survive.

animals need water, sugar, protein, minerals, and oxygen. plants need water, sunlight, nitrates, minerals, oxygen, and carbon dioxide.

unless if you want the really simple elementary-school version in which case animals need sugar and oxygen and plants need water, carbon dioxide and sunlight. but that last description of plants most fits cyanobacteria, so i dont see why schools use it so often.
