The way astronomers find black holes Is by using x-ray imaging from one of the many types of telescopes that orbit the earth. Black holes give off an incredible amount of x-ray waves.
This is the only evidence I know of they use.

∙ 15y agoBlack Holes actually can't be seen. Their gravitational pull is so strong that light can't go out of it once it goes in. There would be a giant spot of nothing in an area. The technology used to "detect" black holes is gravitational lensing i.e seeing a black hole affects the space/time surrounding it.

As to why it is important: Black holes are fascinating objects by themselves. They also seem to play an important role in galaxy formation.

No. If Neptune were to encounter a black hole, it would be destroyed.
