Sick birds go into hiding, not so much to die but to protect themselves from predators and attempt to increase their chances for recovery and survival. Animal reflex guides then to find a shelter, under bushes, under rocks, in cracks, whatever. If they don't make it, the "food chain" ensures that their remains disappear (worms and bacteria) practically totally, maybe taking longer for bones, beaks, teeth… And a number of number of healthy birds die under the teeth of their predators, so their bodies are not found either.
