On Christmas Eve we go to church, even people who don't go the rest of the year. On Christmas eve or day presents are commonly presented to each other (family). Lot's of nice meals are coocked from breakfast to brunch/lunch and dinner. We visit relatives. We have a second Christmas Day (Boxing day En.) on which lots of big stores are open again for business. In fact a lot of used car dealers want to push sales before the end of the year. Ofcourse family visits and more lovely meals are more common. Christmas is mostly about being together in the Netherlands.
At Christmas Dutch children sing Christmas songs. The Christmas tree is decorated days before Christmas. More in use these days is getting gifts at Christmas.
It used to be that Dutch children only got gifts from 'Sinterklaas' (Saint Nicholas) at the 5th of December, but more and more gifts are given by 'Santaclaus' at Christmas.
The Netherlands regard Christmas Day as an important holiday. Typical foods during the yuletide season include: North Sea shrimps; smoked fish, roast or stewed poultry or meat, vegetables and deep-fried ice cream.

First of all, it is spelled Christmas. Anyway, there are many different foods that you can eat on this holiday. It depends on your heritage. I am Spanish and on Christmas, I eat pork shoulder, pernil, with rice and beans. Some people eat turkey on Christmas or they eat a delicious ham.
