When Baby discus is born they stick to their parents body and feed on the mucus generated in the parents body. The parents of the baby discus take care of them until they grow more than approx 3" in size. If the parents feel threatened by any means they eat their babies.
Discus are insectivorous carnivores, so they are hunters and browsers in the wild. Their diet consists mainly of insect larvae and water living worms like Tubifex. They also eat any fish small enough to get in their mouths.
