Best Answer

An element is the simplest kind of substance known to chemistry, which cannot be broken down into any simpler substance by any chemical process. In slightly more technical terms, each element is composed of a specific type of atom which has a specific number of protons in its nucleus. Hydrogen has one proton, helium has two protons, lithium has three protons, etc.
