Most hunters will field dress the deer (remove the internal organs). The carcass is then carried back to the truck and taken to a waystation to be checked in and certified. After being released by the local game warden, the deer carcass is then taken either back home or to a central processing facility where it is skinned, bled out, cut into steaks and (maybe) further processed into jerky, sausage, etc. The meat is stored frozen or refrigerated until being eaten.

After you harvest your deer, you must fill out your deer permit and attach it to the carcass. The majority of hunters will then remove the organs immediately and bring the deer back to their car or camp. You can hang the deer up for a day or two, but it will have to be butchered soon. The butchering is up to the hunter, it can be done by a professional or if he/she chooses to do it themselves, they will have to skin and quarter the deer. Once quartered, the parts can be cut up to the hunters liking and frozen.
