During the American Revolution, loyalists and patriots had different allegiances, but they also shared many things in common. Perhaps most importantly, most shared a common ethnic and cultural heritage, as most had English origins. Additionally, they often shared the same towns, traded in the same markets, and traveled along the same roads, as patriots and loyalists were typically located in the same towns, cities, and countryside's throughout the Colonies.
