Elvis was first introduced to music through his attendance in Church. Also, the first music Elvis listened to on the radio was the "Grand Old Opry" which played Country/Folk Music. Lastly, Elvis routinely sang with family members while at Church and during family gatherings.

Did Elvis Presley read the Book of Mormon?

Yes. Elvis Presley did in fact read the Book of Mormon. He had many friends that were members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (commonly called the "Mormon" church) who introduced him to the book, including Ed Parker, Cricket Butler, and the Osmond Family. Elvis studied many religions near the end of his life and had a fascination with many of them, including Mormonism. You can go to the "Related Links" below to hear Alan Osmond discuss how he came to have the book and donate it to the Church archives, as well as see photos of the book with Elvis' notes in it.

Did Sears Roebuck bid against Elvis for Graceland?

Yes. When Graceland was up for sale there were 3 serious bidders. One was the Church. One was Sears. One was Elvis Presley A compromise was presented to Sears and the Church whereby the land would be subdivided and the Church receiving a smaller piece of the Estate and Sears getting the remainder. The Church also wanted a "pass through" so that they could access what is now Elvis Presley Boulevard. Sears wanted this land and did extensive projections about Whitehaven, the area in which Graceland sits, and Sears knew the area was growing and this location had a lot of traffic and growing every year. When Sears gave its answer of NO Elvis' Mother was called and Vernon was handed the phone and wrote down, and understood, the terms/conditions. They would have to allow the Church to own a small part of the land and provide access to Elvis Presley Boulevard. When Vernon called Elvis to tell him Elvis was very excited and say "why having a Church next door would be fine" and "we would love to have them as neighbors" Vernon called the Owner back and a contract was drawn up and a good faith deposit was given and a few weeks later Elvis owned Graceland and was so very excited to have this beautiful home with lots of land and his parents being able to live in comfort and enjoy the rewards of Elvis talents.

Which person knew Elvis Presley?

Inasmuch as one person can truly "know" another I would say that Red West, Sonny West, and Jerry Schilling knew Elvis the longest - worked with him for decades - and were members of Elvis entourage known as "The Memphis Mafia".

Who was ginger in Elvis's life?

Ginger was Elvis' girlfriend, who was living with Elvis at Graceland, at the time (sadly) of Elvis' passing on August 16, 1977. Ginger had a "similar look" to Priscilla and yet Ginger was born and raised in Memphis Tennessee where Elvis lived at Graceland. Elvis met her when she was 20 after Elvis had invited her family to go to the fairgrounds (note: Elvis knew her Father as he was Elvis' Army Induction Officer when Elvis was drafted into the Army) along with two of her older sisters (Terry was the current Miss Tennessee). After meeting Ginger their relationship blossomed and according to Ginger Elvis asked her to marry him in January of 1977. This account has been disputed by various members of the Memphis Mafia by the way.
