It can flex the humerus, as in throwing a ball side-arm, and in lifting a child. Secondly, it adducts the humerus, as when flapping the arms.

In more common terms, the pectorals in humans, refer to the pectoral muscles. Usually the pectoralis major, the larger of the two. The smaller muscle underneath it is called the pectoralis minor.
