its the one day during lent you can break your lenten promise i.e if you give up drink for lent you can drink on st patricks day so people who do give up drink go a bit overboard and make up for lost time
Some people do, but certainly not everyone. People who like whiskey would drink it, but many Irish people don't drink whiskey at all.
Well we drink beer because it is a great part of celebration and in celebrating. People drink beer at parties or small get-togethers or weddings! Those are happy times! So why not drink to make St. Patrick's day a happy time?
