Airwoman is appropriate for a female member of an airforce. Only officers should be called "sir" or "ma'am". Lower ranks should be addressed by their rank although "leading aircraftsman" is a mouthful compared to the equivalent "corporal".

Airman is appropriate for male or female, it is not gender specific, and 'sir' or 'ma'am' i addressed to higher ranking member than yourself.
