I'm afraid until today very few Chinese would deem the national policy as a violation of human rights, because "human rights" are still quite a new wonder in China, and there has been little criticism against family planning, because it's a NATIONAL policy --- it's no Chinese tradition to go against the government! (I guess Obama would prefer being the ruler of a Chinese village to being a servant of the USA.)

The status quo is that most urban couples would prefer to have just one child as required by the national policy, partly because they cannot support two, while in the vast rural areas people tend to have a second, or even third, kid as long as you are able to pay the fine (the sum of which varied by regions). In general, Chinese people prefer boys to girls in that it's the son that would support you in return when you are getting old while a married daughter traditionally lived with her husband's parents has morally little responsibility for her elderly parents. With the current infantile social security system, very few Chinese senior citizens could live on their own, either financially or sentimentally.
