Between the two of them a snake would probably make a better pet as they tend to be lower maintenance and are easier to get. As snakes go corn snakes and king snakes are usually the best pets.
Snakes and other reptiles are not usually friendly in the wild. Pet dogs can sometimes be trained to tolerate pet snakes, but most snakes will avoid dogs. may some accept them but bigger snakes will like dogs only for lunch.
The spelling of the pet snakes is Burmese pythons (native to Burma, aka Myanmar).
