To allow gases to diffues in and out of their leaves, down a concentration gradient.

Stomata can open and close. This is control by the adjacent guard cells on either side.

Stomata will close when it's windy so as not to lose too much water vapour.

Which plants have sunken stomata?

generally xerophytic plants have sunken stomata

Why do plants vary stomata density and not stomata size?

I suppose it is because the cells multiply, not just grow, so some plants that need more regulating just adapt by multiplying their cells, not enlarging them.

Why stomata absent in underwater plants?

if stomata would bepresent in underwater plants water will enter through the stomata fill the plant. Hence their is no Stomata in underwater plants.

Why are plants found in the shade have more stomata than plants found in the sun?

Plants in the shade have more stomata because they need to maximize their ability to capture light energy for photosynthesis in low light conditions. Stomata allow for gas exchange, which is necessary for photosynthesis to occur. Having more stomata enables shade plants to take in more carbon dioxide for photosynthesis, despite the reduced light levels.

Where would plants have less stomata?

Plants typically have fewer stomata in environments with high water availability, such as in humid or wet conditions, as they do not need to conserve water as aggressively. Additionally, plants in shaded or low-light environments may also exhibit fewer stomata since photosynthesis rates are lower, reducing the need for gas exchange. Conversely, plants in arid or dry conditions generally have more stomata to facilitate gas exchange while also employing strategies to minimize water loss.

Do stomata present in mushroom?

No , stomata are not present in mushroom as they are fungi . Stomata are present in plants for gaseous exchange .

What are not examples of stomata plants?

Plants without stomata include mosses, liverworts, hornworts, and algae. These plants lack true leaves and therefore do not have specialized structures like stomata for gas exchange.

Why don't plants keep their stomata open all the time?

Plants do not keep their stomata open all the time because it would lead to excessive water loss through transpiration. Stomata need to close to prevent dehydration and maintain proper water balance within the plant. Additionally, closing stomata helps plants conserve energy and regulate gas exchange more efficiently.

What is the openings on the underside of leaves?
