Most of the major software companies, often referred to as "Big Software" are represented by trade organizations like the Business Software Alliance (BSA) and the Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA).

These groups are primarily "watchdog" and lobbyist groups that seek to secure the best interests of the companies they represent.

They hire top-notch attorneys to levy federal copyright laws against those entities who utilize software without proper licensing. And the law is completely on the side of the copyright holder. Thus, these groups have tremendous clout.

The existence of these groups, in concert with the in-house legal and compliance enforcement departments of large software manufacturers all lead to one basic conclusion...

Software companies strongly, strongly disagree with software piracy.
