They believed that after death you would go to the Underworld and that would be where you would be placed into the several different areas of the Underworld. You could end up in Tartarus (where you'd receive punishment for bad deeds), the Elysian fields (for the virtuous), and many other in-betweens. They didn't have a Heaven or Hell because everyone just went to the Underworld and then they would be placed in the corresponding areas.
