Rainbow insignia on a Girl Scout means that she has completed the requirements to "bridge" from one level of Girl Scouting to the next. The requirements for each bridge are different and the shape of each rainbow patch are different.

Red is for the World of Health and Fitness.
Orange is for the World of Science and Technology.
Yellow is for Exploring the Out-of-Doors.
Green is for the Junior Aide patch.
Blue is for World Citizens.
Purple is for Arts Around the World.
The Five Worlds of Interest were part of the Girl Scout program starting in 1977 when the "Worlds to Explore: Handbook for Brownie and Junior Girl Scouts" was first published. The Five Worlds of Interest were used until the Girl Scout Brownie and Girl Scout Junior programs were revised in 2000 and 2001.
