∙ 11y agoThe wires are coloured different - to prevent someone wiring up an appliance wrongly - possibly causing a short-circuit or a fire ! In the UK, we have a 'three-phase' mains supply. The wires and colours are... live (brown), neutral (blue) and earth (yellow & green stripe)
