There are many metaphors in Romeo and Juliet. However, there is alot of light/dark symbolism. Juliet is almost always compared to light. ex "it is the east and Juliet is the sun", "she doth teach the torches to burn bright", etc.
During their first meeting, Romeo compares Juliet to a shrine, saying "If I profane with my unworthiest hand this holy shrine." Juliet uses elemental metaphors to describe Romeo, referring to him as "a lightning before it strikes" and "a sick man in sadness."
There are several metaphors:
1. " Old desire in his deathbed" is a metaphor for Romeo's previous love of Rosaline. romeo no longer desires Rosaline. His desire is dead, and a "new desire gapes to be his heir." The new desire is Romeo's love for Juliet.
2. "and she steal love's sweet bait from fearful hooks" is a fishing metaphor. Juliet must take the "bait" of love from a dangerous enemy...the situation is sharp and difficult as a fishhook. It's worth noting that Juliet is to "steal" the bait, though, not be hooked like a fish.
