Down in the right corner there is a small icon representing a person and a green dot. click it and choose "Go offline" now you show as offline, and people will not know you are there, but you can still use facebook as you always have.
How come there is no clear chat history on facebook chat anymore?
i am assuming it has something to do with the amount of harassing and bullying that was happening using fb chat. because you can no longer clear the chat history, people will be held responsible for what they type to another individual. sure, this will upset and cause issues for those who are using fb chat to cheat on their spouses or significant others. this is purely a guess on my part. who knows.
