Why Width will increase as you go downstream?

Width will increase as you go downstream due to the process of erosion and sediment deposition. As a river flows, it erodes the banks and bed, widening the channel, especially in areas with lower gradient. Additionally, the river carries sediment that can accumulate in certain areas, further contributing to a broader channel. This dynamic interplay between erosion and sediment deposition leads to the characteristic widening of rivers downstream.

How can rivers be dangerous to people?

People can go swimming in a river and drown. Rivers sometimes flood, which can also cause drowning, or property damage. Rivers can carry certain types of diseases, such as cholera (particularly if people are discharging untreated sewage into those rivers).

Do river beds get smaller as you go downstream?

Not necessarily.

Why does channel depth increase as you go downstream?

Channel depth typically increases as you move downstream due to the accumulation of water volume and sediment load from upstream sources. As the flow progresses, the river or stream gains more energy, allowing it to erode deeper into the channel and carry a greater volume of water. Additionally, downstream channels tend to widen, which can also contribute to increased depth.

Why does volume of load decrease as you go downstream?

erosion :P

Are most of Europe's largest rivers too shallow to accommodate transport vessels?

The major rivers in Europe are all capable of taking transport vessels. Some can take larger ones than others, and the further upstream you go in any river, the more difficult it is. You question could depend on what you mean by "transport vessels" as that could be anything from small boats to cruise liners or tankers. Most cruise liners go to cities near coasts, so the rivers are deep enough there. Many of the major rivers also run river cruises which travel well up along the rivers.

Why does river velocity increase downstream?

Velocity increases in a downstream direction because more sources of water combine depth and width. A constant flow of water would result in a higher river velocity.
