If by sister you mean the Order of Nuns, then it is this writers opinion they do very little. Though there are some orders who devote their time to helping to sick, poor and afflicted.
However if you mean the sisters who come to church regularly with their families they can do much to assist the Priesthood. They can be assigned to visit a certain number of other sisters who may require help. They help the children in the Primary organization of the church, also the young women. The sisters are an indispensable asset to the running of the local church under the direction on the priesthood. It is unfortunate that many church leaders do not recognise their worth.
