Noble meant belonging to the upper class of society in the Middle Ages, during Feudalism. A nobleman had land as his property and this ownership of land was the base of Feudalism. They got the land from the king and they paid homage to the king and offered their service. If they had a land big enough, they also gaveland to others, making them their vassals. The 'chain' of vassalage kept the nobility together.

Noble also means sy of high character and qualities, or something splendid as an adjective.
