Several hundred years ago, people in China wore very traditional Asian clothing, and you would have noticed costumes (including shoes) that were quite different from what was worn in western countries. There were shoes made from cloth or even from silk; some had intricate designs, often in brocade. But these days, much of China is modern and globalized. People dress for business or school or recreation in shoes that are very similar to what we wear in North America. There may still be rural areas where the older style of shoes are still worn, or events where Folk Dancing requires the wearing of the traditional foot-wear; but these days, most people from China wear shoes that are appropriate to modern life or to the work they do.
