The funnel is usually the same color or close to the same color as the clouds above. In low humidity the tornado may be invisible until it stats lifting dust.

Does the desert ever get tornadoes?

Tornadoes do form in deserts, but very rarely. Deserts often see whirlwinds called dust devils. They look like tornadoes but are weaker and form on sunny days while tornadoes form from thunderstorms.

What is the name for a tornadoes that forms in the desert?

The tornado-like whirlwinds that often occur in deserts are called dust devils. They are not actually tornadoes. On rare occasions, true tornadoes do occur in deserts, associated with infrequent severe thunderstorms.

Is it possible for a tornado to come with the sun out?

Tornadoes can only form during thunderstorms, though sometimes the sun may peak through from the side to illuminate a tornado. Other than that, no. Sometimes dust devils will develop on sunny days. Dust devils are whirlwinds that look rather like tornadoes, but they are not. Dust devils are usually harmless.

What makes tornadoes visible on radar?

The signature of a tornado shows up on radar as strong incoming winds right next to strong outgoing winds in a small area. Indicating a small and intense rotation. On rare occasions a tornado shows up as a debris ball, where enough debris is lifted high off the ground that it is detected much like precipitation is. The phenomenon only occurs in the very strongest of tornadoes.

Can you get a tornadoes when it is sunny?

Not generally. Tornadoes can only form from thunderstorms. However, many tornadoes do form near the edge of a thunderstorm and in some cases the ground level circulation of the tornado can drift out from under the storm base, even though the tornado still connects to the parent storm. There are some whirlwinds, namely dust devils, that form on clear days and look like tornado. But these whirlwinds are not actual tornadoes.

Why do some people call tornadoes twisters?

Because when tornadoes hit the ground they spin in a cyclone-like vortex of wind, dust and debris.

What is the stuff that is kicked out of an impact crater?

Why does sataurn have rings?

it is dust and rocks/debris orbiting the planet, it is like how the moon orbits earth.

Can tornadoes occur when outside is sunny?

No. Tornadoes need thunderstorms to form. There are little whirlwinds called dust devils, however. They look somewhat like tornadoes but are much weaker and usually harmless.

Does drought cause tornadoes?

No. In dry, dusty conditions you may see whirlwinds called dust devils. Dust devils are not tornadoes, though they may look somewhat like them. They are usually harmless. Tornadoes require thunderstorms in order to form, so you are actually less likely to see tornadoes during a drought than at other times.

What are the parts of a tornado called?

Most tornadoes have a visible condensation funnel as well as a dust and/or debris cloud. Some tornadoes, have an area similar to the eye of a hurricane called a weak echo region. A few tornado also contain subvorticies, which are almost like mini tornadoes withing the main circulation. Another feature seen in some tornadoes is called an inflow tail or inflow jet, where winds outside the main circulation flow inwards really fast.

Can a dust devil develop into a tornado?

No. Dust devils are whirlwinds that form from low-level convection in the absence of a thunderstorm. Tornadoes form from thunderstorms. However, on rare occasions dust devils can cause minor damage with winds comparable to those of an EF0 tornado. Landspout tornadoes can sometimes look rather like dust devils.

What can you find in solar system?

Planets like earth and mars. Asteroids, dust, debris from spacecraft, moons, and the sun.

What are tornadoes that are over a desert called?

A tornado in a desert is still a tornado. However, you may be thinking of dust devils. These whirlwinds occur frequently in deserts. They are not tornadoes, though they do look like them. They are weaker than tornadoes and are usually harmless.

Is there a tornado that is harmless?

No. Some tornadoes touch down in open fields and cause no damage or injuries. However, all tornadoes have the potential to cause harm, even EF0 tornadoes. There are some whrilwinds that are harmless, such as most dust devils. These are not tornadoes, though they sometimes look like them.
