It depends on what you are wanting to connect the iPod to. If you want to connect it to a wall outlet to charge, then you have to by an iPod wall adapter (includes adapter and iPod to USB connection wire). If you want to connect it to a computer to download music, photos, videos, etc., then you just use the iPod to USB connection wire that should already be provided when you buy your iPod, and connect it to any USB 2.0 port on your computer.
