If you are riding a horse that tends not to listen to you the first or second times you ask it to do something, and then we are talking about a crop not a whip right??

A lot of horses need to be whipped when you're racing them. 75% of horses that win in the UK get whipped so it shows it works.

the whip used by a horse back rider is generally called a crop when it is short, the term whip is also used for longer lengths.

It is called a Riding Crop and its use, to beat a horse to more faster, is, in most descent peoples eyes, cruel and barbaric.
