They are not closely related, even. The porcupine is a mammal that bears live young, and the echidna or spiny anteater is a monotreme: it lays eggs, but is otherwise like a mammal.

No. The echidna and the hedgehog are not related at all. Although both mammals, the hedgehog is a placental mammal while the echidna is a monotreme, or egg-laying mammal.
