This really depends on the nature of the vessel, who do you mean by "Driving" and so forth. It could be the Captain, Skipper Or "Bob". It could be the Conning Officer (called the Con.) It could be the helmsman (which is the person steering the ship, taking commands from someone else.), the River or Bar Pilot. It could be anybody who thinks he is a Captain. ETA- I forgot that in the Merchant Mariners the "Captain" is technically the ships "Master."
A "Pilot" is a person who drives a plane.
A person that drives a passenger actually drives the car for the owner. This special essential person is called a Chauffeur.
