Well, bats in a group are called a colony. That colony may either roost for the day in a "roosting site" that is just temporary ( a hollow tree) if they are migrating, or they have found a "roosting site" or "maternity roost", (roof of an old barn) for the season. Many times a bat will return to the same roosting sites for years. Sometimes, when, or where the females gather to birth the young is called a "nursery colony or roost". If the bat doesn't migrate to a warmer climate for the winter, they may be forced to find a "hibernation site, or roost", (a cave) if the weather gets cold enough, and the food sources are affected. People can supply roosting sites for bats by putting up bat houses, very similar to bird houses, so that is another place that bats can call home. For more details, please see sites listed below.
The place where any animal lives is its habitat. Although we are put under the impression that bats like to live in caves, they may in fact be found in almost any habitat you care to name, and are found all over the world; jungles, caves, deserts. Some feed on fruit, others on small insects, and therefore they choose their habitat according to where they know they can rest during the day, and where there is food.
