Tannery. Where they 'tan' hides. Leather is made by scrapeing off hair, senew and what not, stretched and 'tanned' - treated and dried until soft and supple. Then it is dyed a color and fabricated into a product.

Note: I've been told Native Americans used the brains of deer to make their hides soft and bleached.
