What do you do after the exam in Pokemon Mystery Dungeon?

One you complete your personality test and become your destined Pokemon, you need to chose your partner Pokemon. Note that the Pokemon you chose will accompany you on every mission until you complete the main plot of the game. Pick your partner wile considering your Pokemon's type and the type which is the most versatile in the dungens.

Afterwards, you will be placed in the plot of the game as a human who was mysteriously transformed into a human. You will be presented with various rescue missions which, when completed, will aid your progression through the game. The ultimate aim of the plot is to find out what happened to you (or your Pokemon character which represents you). Of course, you will be taken into further points which sometimes do not aid you in discovering what occurred.

Once you have defeated a certain Pokemon and completed the main plot (the Pokemon and the plot varies in both Rescue Teamand Explorers), you will be able to embark on any missions that you like and may engage with further sub-plots of the game. Mainly, Mystery Dungeon is about exploring caves and dungeons to complete missions while you play as a particular Pokemon.

In essence, after you finish the 'exam', all you need to do is complete the game.
