Once you have found a den, you want to walk up to it and a small pop-up will appear asking you if you want to make this your den. It's your choice wether you want that den or not. After that you want to mark your territory.
Read the pop-up in game and make sure you have tutorials on in the Game Settings. It will explain everything there.
If you have already skipped the pop-up, save your game and load it once more. The tutorial will reappear.
