I have had the unpleasant "oozing belly button" few times. There are two things that have caused it for me. One is contact dermatitis as I am allergic to some metals. Zippers, snaps and buttons on jeans in particular are the culprit. I paint clear nail polish on the metal or look for pants/ jeans that have plastic closures. The other is actually related to a systemic yeast infection. I've battled yeast all my life and have to be extremely careful about eating sugar as sugar seems to give yeat a license to grow. My home treatment includes a gentle but thorough washing of the area, a gentle and thorough drying ncluding the use of a blow dryer and the application of 1 of two over the counter medications. Neosporin ointment, not creme, or vaginal yeast infection creme applied with a clean Q-tip clears it up in a day. Be sure you don't push the Q-tip in too far. Works for me everytime.

Ozzing, itching, inflamation and distention (swelling) are all typical signs of two things.1) Infection 2) Allergic reaction. Both of these are serious if left unattended. Due to the nature of this site and the lack of detailed information about the problem the best course of action is to seek medical attention without delay. Should this be an infection the chances of it going septic are very high. Please seek medical attention.
