Check the mute button. If it's off, fix the volume/master volume level by double-clicking on the sound icon on the right side of your bottom toolbar. Depending on whether your computer is a laptop or desktop, you may also have a manual volume control.
If those are in order, do you have an auxillary output (speakers, headphones) plugged in? Check the manual volume control on those.

Check the "mute" button to be sure that the computer was not accidentally switched to mute. You can also access "Device Manager" to perform diagnostic tests on the hardware of the computer.

∙ 8y agoThere are three different things which could be At Fault for this. The first is the computer system itself. Open the volume control panel (Right-click on the volume icon) and make sure that each slider is above the bottom. If the sound never worked, then you should check your drivers. Try Driver Booster (http://www.iobit.com/en/driver-booster.php) or Driver Magician to check for an audio driver you don't have, or an update for one you already have. Create a system-restore point, and try it. The second thing is that if the sound recently stopped working, then it could be your audio card has failed or the output port has been damaged. If you have an output port in the front and back, try them both. If that doesn't work, try getting a replacement, and install the driver to go with it. The third issue could be your speakers or head phones. The easiest way to check this is by plugging in a different set. Make sure that you are plugging in to the standard audio output port, not the microphone, line in, digital out, or any other port.
