∙ 13y agoIt is normal for many women, especially when they are first using tampons. If you are a virgin, your hymen may still be mostly intact and it will be very difficult (even painful) to use tampons. Stress and improper positioning can also be a problem. When you are nervous, your vaginal muscles tighten. Try to relax and make sure your legs are spread enough to give you access. It may also help to squat or put one leg up for a better angle.
Do not attempt to use tampons when you are not menstruating. Tampons require some lubrication to slide into your vagina, and inserting it dry will be painful but can also cause damage.
