Hermit crabs are used to the tropics so they like a warm climate........ they prefer temperatures between 76- 82 degrees Fahrenheit while in their cage, but prefer 95-105 degrees Fahrenheit while basking in the sun. There is a book that teaches you all you need to know, it is called "Your Happy Healthy Pet: Hermit Crab" by Audrey Pavia

When a Land Hermit Crab dies it starts going limp in it's shell and falls out, a sleeping one is locked in the shell with an extra pair of legs. But if it is REALLY dead, it smells like rotting fish...
You will know when your hermit crab is about to die because it will not move in the shell. When it is not moving it starts to fall out of its shell. Like my hermit crabs 2 of them died and now I only have 1. The first and second one did the same thing of course but they both fell out. You also know when a hermit crab dies, when they a pale or there skin is different. They will not hide into there shell at all. Hopefully your hermit crabs are in good health like mine were!!!
After the animal dies he takes it away and has it for himself. In about a month he leaves the shell behind and gets a bigger shell.

A crab dies when u step on it I guess or when you chop its shell in half or when you boil it
The snail dies, gets washed up to the shore, and a hermie either eats itd body or removes it, and occupys the shell.
When a sea snail dies, its shell eventually washes up on shore, where the hermit crab uses it as its new home. Therefore this would be commensalism, however since the snail already died there is no living symbiosis.
A dog may try to eat a hermit crab if it is not moving and pinching. The dog may like the taste of the crab or he may not. If the crab pinches the dog's mouth, likely the dog will let go.
Do not kill a hermit crab! They always die because of stress because people never take care of them right. They need distilled water, sea salt water, humidity, temp, and so much more. If u kill one on purpose thats called animal abuse.
Yes, they are scavengers and will eat their own kind. They can smell the weakness of a hermit crab when it molts and some kill the molting hermie to eat. They dont stop to think thats my own kind, they just have a sense that says eat.
