First, I sugest not moding any of the game or the Xbox. Why do you think peoples Xboxs break all the time? Cause people are screwing around with it! That's my only advice. Take it or leave it.

If you want to edit the map then you can get the SparkEdit mod. It's basically just editing the maps to your pleasure. You can get the mod at download.com, just put in the search box at the top right SparkEdit Mod. Then you are on your way. As for map mods like trying to get a pelican into Bloodgulch I'm not to sure about that.
Why is your screen white on halo 1?
Usually between levels you screen will turn white just before the level appears. I think it is supposed to resemble you being transported to the level, or making you feel as if you'e actually there. If not, get a new TV buddy.
