If you have accidentally stumbled across a geocache, please leave it exactly where it is. Chances are it has not been lost and anyone who wants to find it will track it down themselves.
If you want to check that the cache is in the right place, you can find the serial number (usually found on the container or the logbook), look it up on the geocaching website and contact the cache owner.
If you have found the cache on purpose, sign the log book and put it back, then log your find on the geocaching website.
Open it up, sign the logbook, put the cache back and log your experience on the Geocaching website. If you fancy taking something from the cache, you must replace the item with something of similar value.
Typical items to find in a geocache are a logbook, a pen and various trinkets such as keyrings, buttons, small toys, etc.

Yes
By all means, yes. You may want to revisit a geocache to share it with a friend, or to enjoy a view or location. You may want to revisit a geocache to drop of a travel bug or geocoin (or to retrieve one to help it on it's journey.) Now, if you are logging a find of a geocache on a website, your first visit when you sign the logbook should be logged as a "find" (or whatever term your geocaching listing site uses.) Subsequent visits should not be logged as a find. Perhaps you would log a "note" to record your visit or your travel bug/geocoin movements. It's important on secondary (or more) visits to a geocache to use care and stealth in retreiving the cache. You will want to ensure that you don't reveal the cache's location to non-players who may muggle the cache. I think you will find the most cache owners welcome many visits to their cache. It shows that you appreciate the work they put into creating their cache.

'Geo' is the prefix for geothermal and geocache. 'Geo' means 'earth' and 'thermal' means 'relating to heat'. Therefore geothermal means 'Relating to heat of the earth'. 'Cache' means 'hidden item(s)', therefore geocache means 'hidden items around the earth'.
