I have depression also, and what I find that helps a lot is to just let it go. It may seem hard, but they don't know you, they don't know what it's like so why should it even matter if they get mad? If they don't have depression they don't have any right to make that kind of a judgement, so you can always not let it bother you. I used to do the same thing, but once I figured out that their opinions don't matter, I felt much better.
