Talk about it with your friends and if they are as good as friends as you think they are then they will understand. There is no use risking Friends when in a couple of years you will have trouble even remembering his name. Remember "chicks before dicks".
Even if your friends say there ok with it in there heart there not. Plus if you started dating him your friends would become jealous and not want to be around you. It would just be awkward. So if that ever happens to you, Ignore it. Because you will move on.
