You can sign into your Gmail account easily on all devices. It is because Gmail servers are continuously working. You cannot login because of issues in network.

I wasn't able to sign out of my work email on my Samsung mini, but what you can do is switch of the notifications tag that way you'll only see your email by actually going into your mail account, they wont pop up on your phone status bar all the time. Go into your email hit the bottom button (menu) on the left. go to setting at the bottom of the list. choose the email account you want, scroll down to email notifications and un-tic the box.
