The blue chicken (which is actually a Cucco named Cojiro) is a part of the Biggoron Sword side-quest (a sword that does extra damage). You need to bring Cojiro in to the lost woods, go right, and there you will find a sleeping man. Wake him up with Cojiro, and the side-quest has started.
