You have to pull the switches in the proper order as the room fills with sand. The little statues have dots on their bellies to indicate the order in which the switches should be thrown (1 dot, then 2, then 3, then 4).
(The positions in order : far right, middle left, middle right, far left.)

You aren't actually in a pyramid : you have entered the Sphinx. Defeat the four challenges to find the Green Jewel of Nabooti. (see the related solution below)

There is a key of symbols on the wall when you first enter the pyramid. It shows you the symbols to step on.
The four challenges are the dashes, the blocks, the collapsing floors, and the sand statues.
