Some counties and states actually have laws prohibiting you from throwing away electronics like TVs, monitors and computers.

The EPA has listings where you can recycle them. Sometimes computer shops will take them. You can also check with your local high schools and colleges to see if they want it, although most will say no.

If you are tech-savvy, you may be able to use parts from it in a new computer. The hard drive is the most common thing to carry over to a new system. However, most old parts aren't worth it.
