Driving Highway 101 north from San Francisco to the Oregon border is an extremely scenic drive. The road is very twisty and opportunities to pass slower cars may not always be available, so this is not a route to take if youre pressed for time.

You can take highway 101 From San Deigo to San Francisco but it will you much longer than the I5 route. I don't take the i5 route anymore because LA is a nightmare. Highway 101 is nicer. You can even see Lego Land on that route.
