I think if the shire is a pure breed shire and the Morgan is a pure breed Morgan, you will get a breed that is 50% shire, 50% Morgan, but it will show up as being the breed of the mother.

If, say for instance, the foal is 49% shire and 51% Morgan, the foal will show up as being Morgan. But you can check under the genetic tab of the certain foal.

If you breed a Shire stallion and an American Saddlebred mare what breed will the foal be?

Mostly Likely turn out on the most dominate, but it is possible for a Shire and ASB to breed. We have a mule that was from a 18hh Belgian draft and a minature donkey so it is possible. I would advise that it is dangerous to breed a big draft with a ASB they are tall and thin and it may be hard on the mare depending on what the foal might be. It could turn out to be much heavier than the poor mare is used to carrying. The foal will definatly be a cross. It will most likely have more of its Dad's genetics, so it would be more Shire then Saddlebred. But I wouldn't suggest breeding a Shire to a Saddlebred. A male horse goes on top of the mare to breed, and I think that the poor mare would get crushed. You might have more luck with a Saddlebred Stallion and a Shire mare.

How big are foals?

It all depends on the breed. Like a shetland pony is obviously going to have a really small horse to compare to a shire foal.

Does the weight of a baby horse depend on the breed?

I would think so, yes. For example, a Shetland pony foal would weight a lot less than a Shire horse foal! Hope this helps! :)

It depends on the breed. There is so many different breeds, and sizes. Like a Fellabella (smallest horse) Colt yearling, would be tiny, but a Shire (biggest horse) Colt yearling would be really big. So there ISN'T a average size for any horse, unless you want to know about a certain breed, then I might could help you.
