If you wish to become a geologist, you should begin studying geology as early as possible before you finish your mandatory schooling. You should then look for colleges with geology programs. After selecting a school and a study curriculum, obtain a bachelor's or masters degree in geology.

Geology is essentially an amalgamation of the three main sciences: Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Maths also plays a very significant role. As such, the study of these subjects is very important. Then it is normal to undertake (as a minimum) an undergraduate degree in geology.

After this people may seek employment as a geologist. However most geologists in employment will ultimately aim for chartered status (or equivalent) which usually requires a postgraduate geology qualification and a professional review by an accrediting body such as the Geological Society.
