Jasper is still learning to control his thirst for human blood. He is quite shy around humans because he is trying very hard to not bite them! He can not really get near humans. He does eventually get used to Bella because he is around her so much and because he considers her part of the family. But, when around other humans he is quite shy so as not to bite them.
